Heat Pump & Mini Split Installation

Any and all kinds. Whole house heat pumps that work with your ducts, and ductless mini splits for the rooms your system never reached. One unit that heats in winter and cools in summer. One contractor for the whole job: HVAC installs for homes, and custom galvanized steel fabrication for other contractors.

How They Work

Heat and Cool With One System

A heat pump moves heat instead of making it. In summer it pulls heat out of the house and sends it outside, the same way an air conditioner does. In winter it runs the other way, pulling heat from the outdoor air and bringing it inside. Because it moves heat rather than burning fuel to make it, a heat pump can heat a home using less energy for much of the year.

Windsor and Essex County sit in the warmest part of Ontario, with long humid summers and winters that are milder than most of the province. That makes this region a good fit for heat pumps. On the coldest nights a heat pump can be paired with a gas furnace, which takes over when it makes more sense, so the house stays warm no matter what the weather does.

Two main types

  • Whole house heat pump. An outdoor unit and an indoor coil that connect to your existing ductwork, usually on top of the furnace.
  • Ductless mini split. An outdoor unit connected to one or more wall mounted heads inside. No ducts needed.

Who this is for

  • Homeowners replacing an old central AC who want heating from the same unit
  • Additions, sunrooms, garages and finished attics that are always too hot or too cold
  • Older homes with no ductwork, heated by baseboards or a boiler
  • People who want each room or floor set to its own temperature
Options

Pick the Right Setup

Ducted heat pump

Replaces a central AC and uses the ducts you already have.

Plus
Whole house comfort from one outdoor unit. Nothing new on the walls.
Watch for
Only as good as the ductwork it runs through.

Single zone mini split

One outdoor unit and one indoor head for a single room or open area.

Plus
Quick install with a small hole through the wall.
Watch for
Heats and cools one space, not the whole house.

Multi zone mini split

One outdoor unit feeding two or more heads in different rooms.

Plus
Each room has its own remote and its own setting.
Watch for
More line set runs to plan around the house.

Hybrid with a gas furnace

A heat pump for most of the year and the furnace for the coldest days.

Plus
Backup heat built in and lower gas use in spring and fall.
Watch for
Needs controls set up so both systems work together.
The Process

How We Install a Heat Pump

  1. Call

Tell us which rooms are the problem, what heats and cools the house now, and whether you have ductwork.

  2. Home visit

We measure the spaces, look at the ducts, the electrical panel and where the outdoor unit can sit. For mini splits we plan where each head and line set goes.

  3. Written quote

The quote lists the equipment, the number of zones, the line set routes, any duct or electrical work and the outdoor pad or wall bracket.

  4. Install

The outdoor unit is set, heads or coil are mounted, line sets are run and sealed, and the system is charged, started and tested in both heating and cooling.

  5. Cleanup

We tidy the line set covers, clean the work area and show you how to use the controls and clean the filters.

Pricing

What Moves the Price

Number of zones

Each extra indoor head adds equipment, a line set and labour.

System size

The heating and cooling output has to match the space. Bigger homes and rooms with lots of glass need more.

Ductwork condition

A ducted heat pump may need duct repairs or changes so air reaches every room.

Line set length

The farther the heads are from the outdoor unit, the more line set and wall work.

Electrical

Some homes need a new circuit or panel space for the outdoor unit.

Mounting

Ground pad, wall bracket or roof stand, depending on the space around the house.

No prices are posted here. You get a written quote after the home visit.

FAQ

Heat Pump Questions

What is a heat pump and how does it work?

It is a system that moves heat. In summer it takes heat out of the house like an air conditioner. In winter it reverses and brings heat in from the outdoor air.

Do heat pumps work in Windsor winters?

Yes. Windsor has some of the mildest winters in Ontario, and many heat pumps are built to keep heating well below freezing. For the coldest days, a heat pump can be paired with a gas furnace as backup.

What is the difference between a heat pump and a mini split?

A mini split is a type of heat pump. A ducted heat pump uses your existing ducts, while a mini split uses wall mounted heads and needs no ducts.

Can a heat pump replace my central air conditioner?

Yes. A ducted heat pump sits in the same spot as a central AC and cools the house the same way, with heating added.

How many mini split heads do I need?

It depends on the layout. An open main floor may need one head, while separate bedrooms each need their own. We plan it room by room at the visit.

How often should a heat pump be serviced?

Clean the indoor filters every few weeks in heavy use, and book a yearly service so the coils, drains and refrigerant charge are checked.
